ERN-RND has affirmed the value of the Ataxia-UK
guideline “Management of the ataxias towards best
clinical practice” (Ataxia UK, 3rd edition, July 2016).
The guideline aims to provide recommendations for
healthcare professionals on the diagnosis and management
of people with progressive ataxia.
The development of clinical guidelines is one specific task for all European Reference Networks. Beside this, ERN-RND considers the endorsement of evidence-based clinical guidelines developed by other organisations that meet the ERN-RND criteria and processes. Clinical guidelines developed by other organisations may be placed in the following categories: endorsed or affirmation of value.
The ERN-RND disease groups performed a mapping exercise to find all relevant guidelines for the diseases covered by ERN-RND. The guidelines then undergo a methodology check. ERN-RND will develop its guidelines according to the standards of the European Academy of Neurology which can be found on the EAN website. Guidelines will be endorsed if the methodology follows the standards of the EAN, the value of guidelines developed using another methodology, will be affirmed.
